Dr. Joe Butler DVM
Dr. Butler, a second generation veterinarian, graduated from Kansas State University in 1986 with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, Dr. Butler spent the next three years managing one of the world’s largest chinchilla operations, with over 2,500 breeding females. During this time, Dr. Butler traveled to Mexico, Japan, Canada, and throughout the United States performing consultations with other operations. As an expert in his field, Dr. Butler judged various chinchilla competitions, including the world shows.
In 1989, Dr. Butler married his wife, Dr. Janet Wood, a classmate from college. When it came to raising their family, they chose to return to the MidWest and join his father’s practice in Valentine.
While Dr. Butler enjoys all aspects of the veterinary field, he particularly relishes production medicine. In pursuit of that passion, Dr. Butler completed the GPVEC Beef Cattle Production Management Services. Outside of the practice, Dr. Butler has raised commercially swine, sheep, cattle, horses, and of course chinchillas. His production background aids his clients in profitable production of their livestock.
Dr. Butler counts himself lucky that his grandchild, Harper, lives only miles away. Family get-togethers always involve driving out to check out their small hobby cattle herd, riding horses, and of course grilling out while the various pets that have found themselves part of the family sitting by the table.
