Dr. Janet Wood, DVM
Dr. Wood’s passion for animals was instilled in her from a
young age at her parents’ farm in Solomon Kansas. This
love for animals and their care drove her to pursue a career
in veterinary medicine. Dr. Wood attended Kansas State
University and graduated in 1986 with her Doctorate of
Veterinary Medicine. She continued her training by joining
a busy, multi-veterinarian clinic in the greater Las Vegas
Nevada area for three years. This provided a heavy
caseload, including emergencies, exotics, surgical, and
medical cases. This veterinary hospital had many of the
top veterinary specialists routinely come in for surgical
referrals and provided mentorship. This clinic had a large
client base, including animals from the casinos and various
pets of celebrities, which made the 6 day work week and
being on call 24/7 a unique experience.
After Dr. Wood’s marriage to Dr. Joe Butler, a former
classmate from Kansas State University, they moved to
California where she practiced at a small animal clinic in
Southern California. On her day off, she also practiced at a shelter hospital where she provided surgical care on the rescue animals.
Dr. Wood and her husband knew that raising their family in the Midwest was the best decision for them. They moved back to Valentine, her husband’s hometown, to purchase her Father-in-law’s practice as he began his transition into retirement. A year after their cross-country move, they welcomed the birth of their son, and first child. Dr. Wood and her husband are proud to have raised their three children, Ryan, Brianna, and Sarah, in the heart of the Sandhills with a home full of dogs, cats, horse, cows, and every other animal their kids brought home. They are also honored that their tradition of the family practice lives on as their first grandchild, Harper – born in January of 2014, visits the clinic every day!
Dr. Wood’s past experience has set the foundation for Butler Veterinary Clinic’s small animal hospital. Dr. Wood works every day with her patients, and is still on-call 24/7 for emergency cases. Her passion for veterinary medicine and animal care is the forefront of every day. In addition to caring for her client’s companion animals, Dr. Wood also works closely with multiple local pet rescues to provide their needed veterinary care.
